The word “VVS” refers to the various grades or levels of clarity for diamonds. The amount, size, and location of inclusions and flaws, in addition to the diamond’s color, have a significant impact on the clarity of the stone.

Are VVS Diamonds Real?

Yes, VVS diamonds are real. The level of clarity for VVS diamonds is regarded as flawless, with inclusions that are undetectable even when magnified by a standard loupe.
The inclusions and flaws are rated on a clarity scale using a 10X magnification. VVS1 and VVS2 are the two main categories for VVS diamonds. Usually, VVS1 has a higher level of clarity than VVS2.

What is a Diamond Clarity?

Diamond clarity is a measure of the quantity of both interior and exterior inclusions in a diamond. Surface inclusions are mostly fractures and chips. These imperfections, however, most likely happened when the diamond was developing inside the earth.

Diamond clarity is graded from I (Included) to F. (Flawless). Below is the clarity scale from Included to Flawless:

  • I1, I2, and I3- Included
  • SI2- Slightly Included
  • SI1- Slightly Included
  • VS2- Very Slightly Included
  • VS1- Very Slightly Included
  • VVS2- Very, Very Slightly Included
  • VVS1- Very, Very Slightly Included
  • IF- Internally Flawless
  • FL- Flawless

How is Clarity Determined?

There are numerous things to take into account when measuring a diamond’s clarity, including:

Size: More pronounced inclusions are present in larger diamonds.
Number: The grade will drop as the number of inclusions increases.
Nature: Internal versus external inclusions cause the grade to be lower.
Location: The inclusions receive a lower score because they are more obvious the closer they are to the table.
Inclusions’ relief: How obvious they are compared to the diamond as a whole.

Value of VVS Diamonds

VVS diamonds are valued according to their carat weight, cut, color, size, and form. They cost more than SI or VS diamonds because they are nearly perfect.
